The Howard Community Muslim Council (HCMC) is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for, engaging, and serving the Muslim community of Howard County, Maryland. Through civic engagement, education, community partnerships, and grassroots initiatives, HCMC works to amplify Muslim voices, address community concerns, promote understanding, and foster meaningful participation in the civic and social life of Howard County.

To advocate for, engage with, and serve the Muslim community of Howard County, Maryland. We empower local Muslims by amplifying their voices, fostering active civic participation, addressing community needs, and building cross-cultural bridges to ensure our community thrives in the broader social and civic life of Howard County.

Who We Are

The Howard County Muslim Council (HCMC) is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization dedicated to serving the diverse Muslim population across Howard County. Driven by faith, community values, and grassroots involvement, our leadership and volunteer network work together to represent Muslim perspectives, protect rights, and strengthen social cohesion in our county.

What We Do

We fulfill our mission through three core pillars: Advocate, Engage, and Serve.

Advocate: We represent the interests and rights of local Muslims in civic and public spheres, collaborating with partners such as the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) and local government bodies to address key community concerns.
Engage: We foster active civic participation through educational forums, community surveys, public policy awareness, and collaborative initiatives with organizations like Prepare for Success and the Horizon Foundation.
Serve: We deliver direct grassroots support to our neighbors, including regular food pantry distributions, youth empowerment programs, and community support resources for families in need.

Why We Exist

We exist to ensure that every Muslim in Howard County has a voice, a strong support system, and a platform for civic contribution. While Howard County is home to a vibrant Muslim population, navigating institutional policies, addressing social challenges, and building broader interfaith understanding require a dedicated advocacy organization. HCMC exists to fulfill these needs, empowering our community to lead with purpose, give back through service, and enrich the multicultural fabric of Howard County.

History

Founded by dedicated community members who recognized the need for a unified civic voice, the Howard County Muslim Council was established to bridge local Muslim residents with county institutions, educational systems, and regional non-profits. Over time, HCMC has grown from a grassroots advocacy initiative into an active civic partner, regularly coordinating food pantry drives, launching community surveys, and collaborating with local organizations to ensure Muslim families are supported and represented.
